I drove throgh Cary, IL last night and at the stop light at Cary-Algonquin Rd and US 14 noticed a unusual sight: what appeared to be tire tracks up the steep mound to the ROW very near the rail line overpass. I though perhaps these were made by a mower or possibly even a UP company vehicle. Boy was I surprised whe I read the following article:
Crash sends car onto tracks
[published in the Northwest Herald on Fri, Aug 25, 2006]
CARY – A three-car crash about 1 p.m. Thursday sent a Dodge Neon up a steep, brush-filled embankment and onto railroad tracks along Route 14 just east of Cary-Algonquin Road.
“We get cars on the tracks usually at Three Oaks Road and Route 14,” said Lt. Michael Douglass, Cary Fire Protection District spokesman. “Here [at Cary-Algonquin Road and Route 14] is highly unusual.”
The silver 2005 Neon left tracks through the brush up the hill and to the railway, which is on an overpass above Cary-Algonquin Road. The Neon, which stopped just east of the overpass, had damage to the driver’s and passenger’s sides.
