Some of their new locomotives have great headlights, i.e., GP35, CF7, SD50. Some still have the old “headlight in the cab” design, i.e., GP40-2. Has anyone converted these locomotives to headlights like the GP35, etc.? If yes, whose “kit” did you use?
I did one of those on an F7 one time. I simple removed the headlight clip where they’re crimped together and soldered a peice of rail to the part still attached to the frame. I then attached the headlight to the rail (which I bent as needed) so that the headlight bulb would be right behind the light opening. I’m going to that on a GP60 when I get brave enough to attempt it. Some of these Athearn locos are hard to replace.
Not a GP-35 but 38’s, 40’s, 50’s, I have. I wired in white LED’s along with some ditch lights that way. 95% of my Geep Loco’s are Athearn’s.
