All one has to do is look at FEMA’s Flood Insurance Rate Maps (or install the plugin on Google Earth) and you’ll see their yard sits in a 100 year floodplain. It’s really no surprise it flooded. If you build in a floodplain, you have to accept you’ll eventually flood.

The height of the surge was forecast well before the storm arrived. It’s important to hear why the guy on the scene made that decision - and if it was the wrong decision he should be moved to a less responsible position.

You shouldn’t allow $100 million in equipment damages happen and just get a slap on the wrist.

I have to agree with Larry May, plans are made with the facts available at that time.

Politicians, always looking for ways to get on camera or some ink, are blessed with 20/10 hindsight. Not the usual 20/20 that you and I have, but 20/10. We learn from our mistakes and rarely are successful in fully predicting disasters and their extent. The real tragedy will be if we experience it again and have learned nothing.

I lived in those areas for years. You had to be an idiot not to expect flooding there.
