?: Heavy Duty Crane and Car Shop

I recently purchased a Walthers Heavy Duty Crane to go inside my car shop. Unfortunately the crame kit does not include the rails the bridge travels on. The backshop does, and electric furnace kits does, but car shop does not. On the walthers page, the crane was listed as working inside the car shop. So I know the two go together.

On the side of the crane box they have the crane mounted on what looks like an ouside structure. Anybody know which kit this is from so I can kitbash?

Or should I just grab some plastruct girders and glue a code 100 rail to the top of it?

~Thanks

Have you considered contacting walthers in the event that they may have accidentally forgot to put the guiderails in? That might be the case. If not I would suggest going the route with the plastruct components.

If forced to go the scratchbuilding route, Dean Freytag’s book “The Cyclopedia of Industrial Modelling” has a whole section on cranes and could explain how to build the cranes and craneways better than I ever could.

Walthers has 2 traveling cranes: 933-3102 & 933-3150. You do have the 933-3150 - correct? Per the web site; Easily adaptable to operations in any building, this 250 ton capacity crane is designed for maximum detail with easy construction. It includes dual trolleys with hooks and motor details, an operator’s cab, decals and instructions. It’s perfect for the craneways in any heavy industry, and will fit the supports included in the Car Shop (933-3040), Backshop (933-3039) or the Electric Furnace (933-3056) all sold separately. Finished model measures: 11 x 2-3/8 x 2-5/16" 27.5 x 5.9 x 5.7cm.
It sounds like you are missing the supports that were included with the car shop kit itself.

I have the heavy crane in my car shop, yes it did come with the rails. I mounted them on top of some central valley box girders for stability. See more pictures on my web site, you can see one rail near the back of the shop. Seems you have missing parts.

One word: Nuts!

It’s just not my week for model kits off ebay.

Thanks for the help guys. It’s appreciated as always. Time to kitbash parts from the 3102.
