Heavy usage requires modification to TRAX trolley cars

KSL TV (Salt Lake City) reports that several times in the last few weeks, standee’s have been asked to temporarily unload from TRAX trolley cars so that doors could be closed. Seems like with a full load, the doors can catch on the platforms at some stations in the open position. Then the trolley cannot move.

Utah Transist Authority has responded by pulling trolleys into the shop to stiffen the suspension and adjust the doors. They said they would rather fix the cars than limit ridership.

And they said no one rides the train…[(-D][(-D]

Wow! Thats kinda odd, Everytime I am down there I never see that many people ride it. I rode it once, there was plenty of open room, I was able to stretch out and have a couple seats to myself, then again it was like 3 PM on a saturday in downtown but still, Id think it would have lots of riders going to Crossroads mall and especially to see Phantom of the Opera that day.

When the doors won’t close because they hit the crowd standing on the lowest step of the car and automatically reopen… then you know you have a lot of people! Happens all the time in Boston…

Ridership has been improving since your visit.

We get doors not closing on the LRT here, but they have switched to doors that open outwards so we can jam in a few more poeple a car! It gets really full during rush hour, people beyond the second station usually can’t fit on! (Luckily I am at the first!)
I have seen that the cars here have quite stiff suspension, and the cars are very close to the platform, not like london, mind the gap! (Which at times is only an inch!)

Sure am glad I don’t live in a big city! lol

Are these new cars, historic cars, or reproductions?

I could see histroric cars or reproductions having trouble (becuase the repros are probably based on originals) because the car begins to sag by the end platforms. I can easily see this happening.
