The Seneca Like, Ontario, and Western RR is looking for some reasonably good short Heavyweight (1920s) passenger cars. I know for a while Walther’s made such an animal… About the only ones I seem to have come across are the ones from Rivarossi.
I am interested in what you folks out here in Cyber Train Space think of the Rivarossi before I go and spend my $$ on some.
Oh and yes I know that only one or two RRs ever used anything like them, but since I am modeling a fictional, freelanced, figment of my imagination, that is not a problem! The problem is the 80/85 footers that are prototype to most roads back then even after some serious modifications don’t like the 22" radius curves on the SLOW.
And Yes!!! I know that I should tear everything out, completely destroy, burn and slash, order a 30 yd. dumpster, fill it with my layout and start all over again… or better yet maybe sell this house and buy a better basement so I can have 60 or 70 " radius curves and then I could get the Branchline and Walthers Heavyweights I have to run properly. Ain’t gonna happen…[:-^]
Actually, the ones sold by Walthers were made by Rivarossi. I have only one, the RPO car, and it is a nice product.
And, for sharper curves, the Athearn cars can be super detailed into nice looking cars. In fact, I run mostly Athearn and ConCor 72’ +/- cars even with my 36" radius curves.
ConCor is currently featuring PRR MP54 coaches and combines in several “Prototypical” road names and undecorated. These cars versions of which ran in revenue service into the 1980s,are about 60’ long +/-. Check the ConCor and Intermountain web sites and your LHS or On Line provider for information.
Bethlehem Car Works offers craftsman kits and RTR thrugh Intermountain, that are 68’ - 72’prototypes opertaed by the Reading, CRRNJ and B&M among others. Check their web site.
I believe the Rivarossi cars offered by Walthers were CNW prototype.
This vendor seems to have access to a supply of the 60’ coaches. I notice that he has increased his prices, I bought a set for around $85.00 some time back.
