With some tweeks on the speed and sound this could be the centerpiece of a layout. Op sessions could get very interesting!
Now,if they would just make it available in N scale…
A little fast. I wonder if a dimmer switch between the throtle and the power would slow it down? I have one for my “antique” moto tool. Instant cruise control.
The possibilities are pretty good with this. It looks like (providing the amount of space as seen by camera) that you can fit three sets of track under this rig, and still have room for stacks either between the cars, or at the end of the tarmac. Speed: this is supposed to be a DCC item. Presuming that, there should be a way to increase the speed dtep process to make the crane move slower. Noise: Hey if your running sound all over the rest of the layout, and you have a bunch of steam engines or diesels idling, you could probably drown it out (except for turning the crates with that 360 turntable at the top. When I get there, I’m getting it.
I wish they had this in n-scale.
N scale would be great.
Having actually seen an experienced operator at a port, this “operator” would be fired for going so slow, if it weren’t his first time! So stop counting rivets and revel in the fact that such a complicated piece of machinery is even replicated at all for our hobby.
I have read some other feedback, my answerto them is. Yes you need a large area but, container yards are large. I’ve been in a ship yard when there crane been moving, it’s noises. I have one and I think it’s just fine.
it’s very nice but they should have made it to handle more then 20’ containers just like in a real port
Since no one is actually REQUIRED to buy it, those who can and want to, will. Worth $700? Is an HO brass model of a construction crane worth more than twice as much, when it doesn’t even move? Somebody will buy it. Operational possibilities? You bet. Would it be better if it could handle 40’s, 48’s and 53’s? Sure. Get your prototype information and your styrene, and go at it! Since I haven’t heard it in person, I’ll withold judgment on the sound, except for the rotating movement. Awful. Sounds like a 1970’s model Atlas turntable…
Its really amazing however its a bit too noisy and to fast and jerky and way too expensive for my beer pocketbook its for people with champagne pocketbooks
Nice toy. To bad it will only pick up twenty foot containers. A little pricey.
Very interesting model, noisy keypad, realistic looking action, Would be nice to have sound of 6-71 Detroit diesel engine would be perfect for transfer terminal, or if had an extension to go out to side farther, a Seaport kinda expensive for small opperators, but great for big opperators, or club layouts
Very interesting. I wonder if there were more weight in the containters, lead shot, then some of the movements would smooth out and the containers would still “swing”.
Great item but too high priced for us mere mortals.
Good looking model. For price comparison, think about a DCC locomotive, or two, or three considering all the movements it can make. And then there is always the street price to consider instead of retail. So it could turn out to be a good value. The noise probably will not be as noticable in a layout environment - except for that nasty CLICK when it grabs the container. The true shortcomings I see are the 20 foot container size limit, and the fact it is not available in N scale! It is a very commendable first effort though.
It’s definitely going on my wish list. Perfect for my Portland Intermodal. Sound is not a problem. It won’t be for serious switching anyway. It’ll be mostly for visual impact, and for young visitors to try their hand.
That is just soooo cool!
the only thing missing would be a container ship along side the pier for loading and unloading…
My grandson had seen this and ask for one for his birthday. when i had seen the price tag AUS$1090: I siad to him I will buy him 2 new locos insted
