hello everyone!

Hi there,

my name is Sander, and I’m a 20 year old from the Netherlands. I just got a 12 month MR subscrition for my birthday and I’m obviously enjoying it (been reading MR isues for some time now, but they are kinda hard to get here). I started working on an H0 North American railroad a few months ago as I finaly have the space available (yay!). I’m an livelong railfan, and I mainly like “old” trains, mainly F-Units C-liners FA’s RS-2’s GP-9’s GE U-Boats etc etc, I’m not a big fan of the more modern engines but I do have a soft spot for the AC4400. anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself, and I hope I have a good time around here [:)]

[#welcome] to the forum, Sander! Good to have you aboard! [:)]

Sander, you are embarking on a wonderful journey. And, if you stick with it for a while, you’ll pick up all sorts of useful knowledge and skills at the same time.

I’ve only been modeling a little over 3 years now and model the early 40s: Steam and early diesel. (Click on my web link below for more details.) I’ve learned a lot along the way. But, I also realize how much I don’t know - particularly about the prototypes and how RRs run. There’s just so much to learn. [:O]

Anyway, Sander, feel free to come visit us anytime you are able. Remember: There are NO dumb questions. What may seem dumb to you might be a something that someone else has been wanting the ask but has been afraid to. We all, at one time or another, start pretty much at the same place hobby-wise.

Sander, we look forward to having you be a part of this wonderful hobby and forum of ours. Again, welcome aboard!

Tom

As we all agree, welcome to our little section of model railroading. I feel that this hobby requires all sorts of expertise in all sorts of fields. No one person can learn it all. That is the best part of this forum. I personally ask many more questions than I give advice. These guys really know what they are talking about.

May I ask, are you building a layout now or just planning it? A lot is to be said for planning ahead. I speak from lots of experience NOT planning. grin

I just would like to reiterate what has been said by also welcoming you to this forum. There are a lot of good that can come from being here for your modeling career. Truly an information highway that shows that the internet was meant for good. You will meet great guys here who share the same passion as you do. Learn many new tricks that can better your modeling, and have a good laugh once in a while. Just make sure you have a digital camera, Photobucket account, and tough skin, and we’ll get you to where you want to go with this hobby. Never be afraid to post a picture, or ask any question (even if this past two weekends say show otherwise). Now sit back, and enjoy, coming here will be a great step in gaining modeling knowledge. If not then click over to one of the trashy bad sites and make all your wishful dreams come true, and forget about silly choo choos(just kidding).

Enjoy!

I’m already building it, I’m working semi-modular (non standard measurements for the sections) so yes I did plan ahead. I started on a layout a few years ago, but thanks due to the fact that, like you, I didn’t plan ahead…that became a mess really quick [:D] I’m also suffering from ADD (not the hyperactive version fortunatly) so that means planning is paramound for me. anyway, this time it’s going rather well…thanks to having bought almost all materials I needed well in advance…and yet I have bought a lot I can’t use…so much for planning ahead! [(-D]

and thanks to anyone who replied, it seems I’m going to enjoy myself over here!
