Was anyone working today. There was a Derailment in downtown Roanoke VA. on the NS line shown on your web site. It was cover by the TV channels and Newpaper web sites. No mention in todays news wire.
At 7:45 PM Sunday, 3 cars - loaded-auto-racks/ multi-levels, per this article with 2 photos:

A litte more info and a daytime photo inside the end of one of the cars here:

Another article - interviews with some employees ad an NS spokeswoman - no photos, though:
- Paul North.
Thats not really news. Cars derail hundreds of times a week.
But with the world shrinking the way it is , a train derailment of any size is newsworthy, we need to reinforce public opinion that railroads are unsafe so that more government regulations can cripple the industry even more. More federal jobs means more prosperity !

Let’s just hope they aren’t the same cars…
Depends on the railroad…

Yes, we’re here. We only report on major derailments. As others have pointed out, three cars off the tracks happens often enough that we don’t feel it’s possible or desirable to stay on top. Wrecks that warrant coverage in wire include those that shut down main lines for not-insignificant periods of time, wrecks that result in injuries, wrecks that involve missed signals, wrecks that necessitate evacuations, etc.
Same goes for grade crossing accidents. Sadly, they happen every day all over the country. Trying to stay on top of them would be difficult and (IMHO) not have much point. Again, major grade crossing crashes, like one that derails a train, injures a railroad employee, results in a high number of fatalities, etc., will get coverage.
Hope this helps clarify our policy. Anybody with News Wire tips should direct them my way.
Best,
Andy
Thanks for your reply. You are correct and I understand the criteria and agree. I just thought since it was on the web site web cam it would be mentioned.
