Hello Washington We've got a problem with the Southwest Chief

The Southwest Chief has had Locomotive Problems lately on last Saturdays Train 3 which left Chicago late Engines 16 and 65 failed and were set out in Wyant then they had one Locomotive with 21 Cars to Galesburg and then they added 2 freight Locomotives then the Crews died so they had to get another crew. Then the train had 2 Freight Locomotives to LA then if that wasan’t bad enough it gets worse then 4 of the 14 had Locomotive Failers Guess Where right before Raton Pass so the BNSF dispahers told them give a run for it but it keep over heating so they had to go back down and set out the Road Railers then back to train 3 they ran out of gas in the Mojave Desert then Yesterday Locomotive 72 had a leaked fuel injector so it was set out and Again they had to relie on the services of a freight Locomotive. Does this Give GUNN a wake up call and blame WARRINGTON FOR BAD ENGINGS

Wow
can someone get them some gp-9s please
stay safe
Joe

Maybe Amtrak should pull the train with 5 or 6 F7s.[:)]

…Probably all they need is adequate budget to service the equipment.

Buy new E-9’s. Reference another “verses” thread that got a bit on the testy side. Put 12-645 with turbos — 4600 HP. Great sound. Great looks. Never breaks down. Well, not often.

I saw thw two BNSF units leading the train into LA. It was on Monday the 2nd.

Also last week the northbound Chief derailed in Kansas City.

Though I like GE’s I have to admit that EMD has always, it seems, made better passenger engines. Can’t blame GE totally, Amtrak runs bare bones a lot and scheduled loco maintenance is still likely deffered.

I still remember back in the 90s a friend who worked on Amtrak equipment before it was transferred out of Tampa. He told me that Maintenance supervisors would allow F40s to run an additional 5,000 miles past the required oil change point! They were under pressure to keep locomotives running or catch major heat from their bosses ! I remember another F40 parked for a week at Tampa Union station: Fried traction motor! Looks like Amtrak still needs work (and funding) in this area.

EMD AWLAYS RUNS BETTER

TRAIN 4 LET CHICAGO LATE AGAIN THIS TIME DUE TO CAR TROUBLES

Gee UP dispatchers are not Amtrak’s only problem. Who would have imagined?!

We have an administration in Washington that will spend whatever it takes to get to Mars, but won’t give Amtrak enough money to get a train across the desert.I don’t get it.

Because if you’ve ever had to drive it, you’d realize there’s more life on Mars…
