Help blinking light on transformer

I am running a set of trains around the base of my christmas tree this year. They are Lionel brand but are big light the LGB type. Everything has been working great except this morning when I pluged them in, I noticed that the train moves forward 2 inches then stops. It will continue to inch around the track like that.

So I looked at the transformer and noticed that the green light on the box is blinking on and off. This doesn’t happen in reverse. The transformer doesn’t have a model number on it but it is small, red and plastic. The black power plug that goes into it is called “Plug in hobby transformer” Model AC1601250.

I’ve read on the forum that this can be caused by a circuit breaker overload. But I don’t have anything but the track and train that came with the kit installed.

Any ideas ?

Have you checked all around your track to see if anything has fallen across the rails and shorted it out? That would be the first thing I would check.

If that does not locate the problem, start taking you train off the track, one piece at a time, starting with the engine. Check to see if the problems goes away after removing each piece.

Also make sure all of your wires are hooked up tight and that the wire is big enough to carry the amps you are using. If in doubt, replace the wires.

If all else fails, try a different transformer (Power pack?) and see if that fixes the problem.

Good luck and Merry Christmas!!!

Check the back of your power pack and see if the wires are touching where the track wiring attaches to the screw terminals.
