HELP! COULD SOMEONE GET AN ADMIN TO CONTACT ME? NOTHING ELSE IS WORKING RIGHT!

In compatibility mode and can post text in a reply

I thought my account was restricted.

I still don’t understand it, IE #9 doesn’t work for this forum except under compatibility mode, well for my computer anyway.

I use a x64 machine and my windows update said this version was for that type of computer. i’ve tried to use x32 versions of some software and it doesn’t work. you would think that the higher end could work the lower end but it doesn’t go that way.

So anyway looks like i’m going to have to keep working this issue for a while.

Isn’t this thread completely OT (off topic)? What with the very tragic Amtrak accident today (with loss of life), this thread (on computers) seems to be a matter of irrelevant minutia.

It is not that IE-9 doesn’t work with this forum, it is that this forum does not work with IE-9. There has been a change in some of the browser specificiations (or maybe just a re-interpretation) and IE-9 works under this new method but the forum software is still attempting to do things the old way.

Yes, there is lots of argument over whether the change is valid, correct, or a cure to future problems.

But since Microsoft seems to be the 500 pound gorilla in the room you can’t ignore it.

At least Microsoft provided an “out” for those that, 1) disagree with the new way of handling some function, or 2) maybe just haven’t figured out that they are “behind the times”, or 3) have just not spent the time and money to upgrade their software, – and we can tell IE-9 to revert to the old way of doing things in order to keep accessing those web sites.

As for a 32-bit version of a program not working in a 64-bit OS, I have to admit I don’t understand that…

I am running a 16-bit program and a 32-bit program that I wrote and compiled under Windows 98SE, (I have managed to lose the source code so I cannot recompile the program; all I have is the original .EXE file.) I also have a program that I wrote for a 16-bit OS (Windows 3.0) that is running just fine in Windows 7 64-bit. I have some 8-bit DOS programs that run in the CMD mode of Windows 7 64-bit.

I am guessing that maybe the 32-bit versions of some programs are checking what OS they are being run in and balking at being in a 64-bit OS in order to get you to upgrade the version you are loading to one written specifically for the 64-bit world… an (unwanted?) attempt to force you to keep up with the capability of the PC you have… if you have a 64-bit OS why are you attempting to use a 32-bit program that has a 64-bit version available?

Yes, this is compeletly off topic (expect if you want to link the functionality of IE9 with this forum and certain computers).

They only reason(s) this topic ended up in the General Discussions zone is I was so desperate to try and make some kind of post happen that I happened to be in this one when I finally got a topic to post. I tried the Model Railroad, I tried the Garden Railroad, I tried the Classic Trains, it’s just this one went through on this page.

I could not send a message to any admin, if fact I don’t even know who the admins are. I tried the contacts page and that was blank. I tried sending an email to customerservice of kalmbach and still have got nothing back, in face one email got kicked back.

I was afraid my account was restricted and I had no technical solutions until someone suggested compatibility mode.

So I don’t care what anyone thinks about this right now, if an admin or tech support will contact me or someone can give me an admin’s usernamer so I can message or email them and resolve this problem. If they want to delete this topic so be it but I’ll harp on it until I get an OFFICIAL responce.

Isn’t there an email for tech support if things like this happen, when all functionality of communication breaks down here?

Jeff

P.S. If you see text above that means I had or use compatibility mode or a different computer.

With respect - Have you tried the “Forum Testing” Forum here, at: http://cs.trains.com/TRCCS/forums/2.aspx

Contacting the admins might not work because 1) the PM system is similar, and 2) they’re not tech support people. You just may have obtained more useful information for yourself - and some of the rest of us - by what you did,and I am OK with that somewhat unusual approach.

@ironhorseman Jeff: You know, sometimes you have to be patient. Just because you couldn’t get things to work really doesn’t mean you should go on and on about how horrible IE is etc. Several folks here gave you technical advice. The moderators are not computer geeks. Did you even attempt to do what was suggested? Whining and threatening to keep harping on it until you get an OFFICIAL response is pretty useless. Glad to see that you at least removed your bizarre signature.

Look to the other others for going on about how “horrible” it is. Obviously, again, it’s version #9 that has this one flaw. As I already stated I took the advice of the other members. Usually I can figure some of these bugs out but this one threw me for a curve. But if you all want to keep bringing this topic up go right ahead, I’ll answer every comment.
