I’m feeling really frustrated right now. Last night I had a monster post almost done for the coffee pot. Next thing I know its gone. REwrote it all in notepad early this morning. Just spent near an hour trying to get it here.

I find it very easy to lose a post on this forum while I’m trying to write it, especially with the “random log-out” feature that the forum now has. One strategy I often use is to post early, even if I have written only a few words, then use the edit function repeatedly, posting the message often as I write or revise it.
Perhaps some who are reading this have noticed my posts growing and morphing in real time.
The lateJeffry who use dto post here taught me how to do this. My chromebook has Google Docs, or notepad or something like that.
Type there, then click ctrl and a, that highlights it, then click ctrl and c that puts it in the mysteries of the computer.
Go to where you want to post, click in the post box to get the blinking I, click ctrl and v and your post magically appears.
You can type once and post on several forums or whereaver you want, email.
When the hosting software was updated a few years ago, from the initial software this site became very User UNFRIENDLY and has had numerous quirks or kinks that have been added. The old software would let you see who was On-line, when you logged in. That feature disappeared from what I can tell. Without that feature, you can’t start a conversation away from a particular post. It might just be me??? The other annoyance is having to “click, Keep me logged in”, to keep from getting mysteriously Knocked off the site, when doing something. I rarely check in here, as much as I used to, when I got back to trains, after a 48 year gap. We have to live with what they have done, with the updates. [:(]

Nope, no more “Who’s On Line,” on this Forum, in addition to the “Trains” and “Classic Trains” Forums. Too bad, I miss that feature.
I have to click “keep me logged in” just to get in at all. Then it doesn’t actually “keep me logged in” much of the time.
I was trying to do it with a tablet. There used to be a button to click and insert text. There is a paste button but all I could get it to do was paste a link
I imagine just about everyone here who has posted a number of messages has lost an occasional message for various reasons. Sometimes the connection to this site is lost, sometimes the site itself disconnects, and sometimes lightning strikes cause a momentary power loss. I’ve written quite a few long posts where I lost them when I had just finished, but before I’d clicked the “Submit Your Reply” button. It definitely IS frustrating! Once a post is lost, there’s nothing that can be done. All one can do is minimize losses in the future by doing what a few here have suggested. One can create posts using software like Word. That software can be configured to automatically save whatever you’re working on every few minutes or so. Should your computer suffer a power loss, most (and maybe even all) of your work can be recovered. Once you’re done composing the message, you can highlight (or click on “Select All” on most PCs) the entire message, copy it (-c on most PCs) and then paste it into your post here (using -v on most PCs). The other method mentioned works also. It consists of writing a few sentences to begin your message, submitting it, and then editing that post immediately afterward. Adding more to your message, submitting it, and continually re-editing it by adding a little more to your message until you’re done. It’s a bit tedious, and others reading your message may reply to the beginning of your message unaware you’re adding to it. The longer your message, the more of a chance that will happen. It’s a drag, but at least it helps eliminate the chances of losing your whole message that way.
If you don’t take steps such as these, then you’ll always risk losing your message before submitting it.
