Help finding MSTS

I am trying to buy the original or updated version of MSTS, and have tried a lot of things, but all I have found are “out of stock” messages (e.g. Amazon.ca), or “not available from supplier” or “can’t ship to Canada” (e.g., Amazon.com). My local computer stores are out of stock and will not be stocking it any time soon. Can anyone suggest any other sources for MSTS for a purchaser in Canada?

Got any WalMarts? I saw it at my local WalMart in the $9.84(US) bargain section. Based on the packaging, it’s now being distributed by Atari, not Microsoft.

Walmart has it now. It was rereleased by Atari. Same game. It is like $10. I don’t know about shipping to Canada. I know they have it at the Walmart near me. Sometimes it also pops up on Ebay with regularity. Don’t be afraid of the Atari name. Same game.

But when you get it, DONT USE THE DEFAULT STUFF, its the crappiest thing on earth. Go here for gooooooood addones.

DIscontinued by MS, so availablity is ???

Or go free at train-sim.com. Some of the stuff there makes the pay stuff look cheap!
If you can’t find it, let me know and we may be able to work out an assist.

It is redistributed by Atari. Atari is selling a bunch of older titles for under $10. Same games, different distributer.

Indeed. I need to see if there is an updated version of the Lehigh Valley route - I was like, WOW when I first saw that, it has the entire LV line (the version of it I have, anyway) from Bethlehem up past Jim Thorpe. And even a bit of the connecting lines in Allentown and Catasaqua. It’s like driving a train around my neighborhood. Now if the triangle is completed from Catty down the C&F to Alburtis and then back to Allentown…
My only beef with free downloads at train-sim.com is they limit you by minutes of downloads, not bytes, or at least they did. Highly unusable for me with my slow home connection, I used to DL when at other sites that had high speed.

trainboyH16-44,(H16-44,good taste) i have the orig. MSTS, and i just want to caution you to take a look at the new TRAINZ game. not trying to talk you out of MSTS mind you, but i have had MSTS since it came out, and have d/l TONS of stuff for it. sure the d/l"s make it ALOT more fun to play, but i have been checking out TRAINZ and it seems like you can do more with it, and it seems ALOT easyer to customize. TRAINZ also seems to have alot more cars/engines to d/l. TRAINZ is also up to something like version 8 now,MSTS hasnt updated in years. NO, i do not work for TRAINZ, nor do i know anyone that does, i"m just saying check out your options before you buy. however, as others have posted, if you can get it at walmart for $10, GO FOR IT! CRIPES, when it first came out i payed $55 for MSTS! kinda makes me mad its only $10 now. at that price, MSTS is worth it! just my 2cents.

Thanks all, and lginc, I was also thinking of getting TRAINZ.

I went to the Wal-Mart website, and it doesn’t list MSTS. (Canada) Should I check the stock by going to my local branch?

I got it for $6 on eBay.

I believe Microsoft stopped supporting MSTS several years ago, so I wouldn’t count on any updates ever being made by them.

Microsoft programmers didn’t write MSTS – it came from a programming team in, I believe, England, under contract.

just check any store that has discount software, perhaps it will filter to to them.

The developer that made the game worked on MSTS 2 but handed development back to MS and MS ended support.
presumeably MSTS 2 got out but in limited wuantities.

There’s new Train simulators in the works and I am keeping an eye open for them.

I was out buying my daughter school supplies at Staples and I found a copy of MSTS for $10. It’s in a CD jewel case, with ATARI on the label. (Yeah, I bought it.) This wasn’t something that’s been sitting around forever, because that Staples only opened last Saturday. Only 1 copy on the rack, though.

There are lots of payware upgrades available (lots of routes all over the world) and literally thousands of free locomotives, rolling stock, routes, and utilities that really improve the basic set (even Canadian Pacific just added official MSTS downloads on their site). Microsoft made the initial offering open source (like the flight sims) so people could add what they wanted.

Microsoft still has the original support site up which brings the release to 1.2 and adds some more engines, rolling stock, and activities.

I would be happy to pick it up at the local Walmart near me (I know they have a copy) and send it to you for cost (it is like $10 US plus shipping to Canada. Heck, I’ll even throw in some of the free downloads I got on CD). Just email me. Anything to further the MSTS cause.

Keep an eye on Amazon - sometimes they get new stock in. Amazon UK has been offering “used” books, etc for a while now (not sure if Amazon.com is doing the same), I’ve bought a few books in this way that aren’t available new and never had any problems with slow delivery or poor quality (the two things that worried me first time around). For free add-ons try www.trainartisan.com (some very spiffy RS11s, hoppers and cabeese, amongst other things).

I GOT IT!!! Ordered it on amazon.ca (!) and will arrive next week!
I did find out something…Trainz 2006 doesn’t run on my brand new (used) computer! Oh well…Thanks everyone.
