Help! Fixing Freight Car Stirrups

So I was having a bad day, and the universe just loves to make it worse. My thumb barely caught the stirrup of an intermountain 57’ N scale reefer, and it shattered. So my question is, what would be the best way to replace it? I am fairly new to the hobby, so guidance would be most helpful!

Modify the car to use MicroTrains Line stirrups http://www.micro-trains.com/pl-Parts.php (scroll down) Many Model Train shops carry MicroTrains parts and many are in stock at Walthers http://www.walthers.com/exec/search?category=&scale=N&manu=&item=&keywords=stirrup&words=restrict&instock=Q&split=30&Submit=Search

There are also the BLMA brass stirrups also in stock at Walthers. They might be a better choise.

Unfortunately the Walthers online catalog does not have photos of the MicroTrains stirrups, which I assume are plastic. Are they inserted into drilled holes or are flat sides at the top cemented onto pads?
