Help for GE P42 Rear Class Lights

I’m trying to find out what kind of lights were used on the rear of the GE Genesis P42 locomotives from Athearn’s RTR line. I have a Phase V scheme [if that makes a difference]. The RTR model has two small lenses on the rear which appear to be marker/class lights located towards the top corners.

What are these? What is their function, and how should I have them function in regards to operation?

Two lights on the rear of a unit would be markers, not classification lights. If needed (unit at the rear of a train) they would display red. Usually, the lamps would be off.

Classification lights were required under TTTO rules, but have fallen into disuse with the demise of manned train order stations. Many railroads have removed them completely.
