Help Identifying an Engine (or getting the right coupler for it)

I attended a train show in Port Coquitlam, BC about 10 years ago and my wife spotted a Kato 2-6-4 steamer that she thought was really “cute.” There is no tender, just an attached coal storage. We bought it and it has basically sat in its case since. Now that I’ve gone back into N scale, we pulled it out, but of course it has these oversized horn-hook couplers that I’d like to change to knuckle. The problem is, I don’t know which coupler to get, and I can’t really identify the model of engine to get some idea (All the box says is “2002 C11” and then some Japanese writing. Is there something I should look for on the engine, or something about the coupler that I can use to figure out what would work in it? If attaching a picture of it would help, let me know and I’ll try to do that. Thanks.

OK, I found a picture of it here:

I guess that’s what it is - a 2002 C11 locomotive. I don’t profess to be any kind of an expert in these matters. I’ve emailed Micro Trains to see if they can help.

It is European, are you looking for European couplers with what I call bummpers or American style?

Texas - I’m quite sure that what Skiloff has there is a model of a Japanese prototype passenger tank engine, not one based on a european design.

As such, it’s unlikely a cross reference for the appropriate Kadee can be found. Quite probably trial and error will be the only solution.

That is correct, cnj. The link in my previous post shows what it is - a japanese prototype model. The guy at MicroTrains suggested trying the 1128 or 1129 coupler to see if that works. I’ve ordered them, so we’ll see what happens when they come in.

Ah yes of course [B)], I knew it felt funny when I wrote that but couldn’t put my finger on it.
