HELP! Locomotive Histories needed!

This may be the first in a number of series of threads. I am doing research for a friend who has taken over 15,000 Diffrent Locomotive pictures, and he has hired me to research the past of EACH locomotive

So far, can anyone help me with the histories of the following locomotives?

Granite City Steel #1242, 1243 and 1248
Missouri Central 45 Ton #520

Indiana Port Commission #seadog 1

NREX 100 (EMD Switcher)

NREX 96 (EMD Switcher)

CMS 6003 (GP7 or 9)

CMS 5914 (GP7 or 9)

Metro East Industries #1

The Whitcomb Switcher at the Rochelle Railroad Park

CF 1251 (SW1200) (Painted Green/White) In Peoria, Ill

Caltrain 3850
Caltrain 3851 (Both SW1500’s, apperently Ex-SP)

An Unidentified Black ALCo Switcher in Gillman, Illinois) Identified only as 1528 on the end of the long hood

RELCO 601 (ALCo, Painted Green)

W.F. Hall Printing Co. #5 (A rod connected switcher)

American Steel Foundries GE 44tonner at Granite City

ADMX 1465 (A rebuilt SW…with angled cab)

Any help is greatly appreciated

It depends which engine in Rochelle you are talking about. The small grey one, which is under the shelter, I believe was the plant switcher for Whitcomb. The newer engine is the Hall Printing #5. It was at the Mid-Continet Railroad museum foe a while, and then was sold to the WSOR. I have seen photos of it at Janesville, and at the old Badger Amunition plant in Baraboo, before it went to the Rochelle Railroad Park.

Hope this helps.

Phil

I guess both of my answers helped. You also listed the Hall Printing #5. It is now at Rochelle with the small one that you also listed.

www.thedieselshop.us has some the historys.

For your NREX…

This locomotive is an ex-AT&SF S-4 of the same number.

Here is the notation from Gene Crosset’s excellent Santa Fe website linked on Q Station:

1528 S4 Alco Jul52 80061 del BSZ paint ret 16Dec74,
to Continental Grain 1528 [date]

I have photos of this unit from June 2003, the ground plane on the cab is pure Santa Fe.

So if I read this right you have been hired to do the research you are asking everyone else to do for you?

Is this information you are seeking to be used for publication? Or will it be compilied and distributed and shared with those you ask to assist your search? As always ENJOY[2c]

And, those Caltrain SW’s…do you really mean the ones with the spark arrestors, or the usual ones with the unusual paint schemes and regular reflective tape on the handrails?

Just want to make sure I don’t waste my time looking up the wrong ones…

I am doing this for personal use, and when done, I will share the results with anyone wanting information.

Mloik, those caltrain units have the road numbers of 3850 and 3851.

Dharmon, I have gone through already 3 binders full of photos, but there when I do research on some units, like those listed above, I kept coming up with finds not relating to railroads.

I have found a valuble guide in www.trainweb.com/emdloco and www.thedieselshop.com, but some of these units are a royal pain to find.

Jim: I see you got on LocoNotes. If anyone can find an obscure locomotive they are on that list.

ADMX 1465 is an ex ICG/IC SW14 rebuild I do not know the original IC number. It was I am sure a 9400 series number then a 400 series which was done to make room in the 9400 series for more GP9’s. The 1465 is the ICG/IC number.
