I got this HO scale loco:

It is a 2-6-4? tank, but what make? I first thought Tenshodo, but it differs too much from the ones I have…
Even the origin of the prototype eludes me. USA? Japan? The condensation? tubes are confusing me as well…

I will repair it, and build a new reartruck for it, but I need to know how it should look. Thanks in advance.
It is a Japanese C10! Made by Toby/KMT, a company I have never heard about before… http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/1967-toby-6-4t-c10-jnr-japanese-ho-293370500
That engine looks a lot to me like a JNR (Japanese National Railways) C11 steam locomotive. Below is a picture of a friend’s custom-painted N scake model.

I am just guessing, though.
Looks Japanese-ish to me.
Is it large-ish in proportion to standard HO models? The Japanese made some stuff that runs on HO track but is larger in scale to simulate their narrowgauge track, something about OO size IIRC.
Some of these made it to the US based on old MR ads I’ve seen. They do look like tank engines used for commuter service on some eastern North American lines.
JNR C10 class as built. Spotting detail is the sand dome over the firebox with the steam dome forward. The very similar C11 class had the domes reversed.
The C10 class numbered 23. There were over 400 C11s. Maybe having a shorter throttle rod is a good thing…
I see the number placques appear to be present on the tank sides. If properly etched, they should clean up to reveal the loco number.

Thanks, if you are interested in it, please PM me… I’m into US prototype models.
