Help me surprise my husband! Item search

My husband and I just bought a new house with a great big “train room.” I’d like to surprise him with something he saw at a train show a few months ago, but I have no idea how to find it. (I’m not much into the hobby myself.)

It looked like a framed mirror with a picture etched out. There were little lights behind it so it showed the logos. Does anyone know what they’re called, or who the vendor is, or where to buy them? I’ve only been hitting dead ends searching for it.

Thank you for any help or ideas!

Kelly

Kelly,

It might have been a one off custom deal. One of a kind thing or, maybe made by a local guy who just makes a few in his spare time.

Couple of suggestions… If it was at a train show, see if you can track down the event organizer. If you dont remember, check with the local hobby shops or go back to the venue it was held it to find out who put it together. If you can find the the person who was in charge, chances are someone will remember the vendors and maybe give you a name. Best of luck.

Thanks for the suggestions. The event organizer route hasn’t produced a lot of reponse…

A few more clues for our dear readers:
It was the national show in Philadelphia, if anyone was there. It was in the back corner opposite the layouts. I think it was at the end of a row. If I had a map of the exhibit, I could narrow it down to within 2 or 3 booths.

It seems like the guys makes a lot of them. They might not have all been train-related logos, but I think my husband said he saw them at another show or in a magazine.

Thank you again!

Kelly,

Is there any chance that you can just “subtlely” inquire from your husband what the thing your describing is called? Something like, “Hey, honey. I was tryin’ to remember something the other day and it’s driving me nuts! Remember the lighted thingy that we saw at the train show back in July. What do they call those things again?” or something to that affect.

Now, BEFORE you ask him, mention it to one of your girlfriends first. That way, when your husband asks you, “Uh, why daya want to know?”, you can tell him that you were talking to [girlfriend’s name] about your trip to Philly and was trying to describe to her the unusual lighted thingy, but couldn’t remember what it was called. That way you aren’t lying when you tell him why. [:)]

Good God. Here comes another 12 page thread.

I have seen these at shows in the past. They are lightup signs in full color and look real nice. Where was the show at that you saw these at? I will be in Syracuse this coming weekend, but I don’t recall ever seeing them there. I have seen them at the show in Hamburg NY which is coming up Nov 18-19th. If I see them I will get the information for you.

I think I know what you’re talking about - these people, right?

I almost bought one. I don’t remember the company name, but the guy shows up at all the Timonium shows (their website is where I found this picture. The URL is http://www.gsmts.com/index.htm. Try E-mailing the show people at hzane1@comcast.net. Maybe they can help more.

I know which company you’re talking about- they’re on the other side of town from me. AYA Enterprises, LLC in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

They’re on the web at http://blastedmirror.com

Very nice stuff.

Andre hasn’t gotten very far along with fleshing out his web site, but he does have his catalog, with his e-mail address and phone number, on the site. It’s the “Mirrors” option on the left-hand menu.

Thanks for the helpful input, Robert…[tup]

P.S. And, yes, He is good!

I’ve got a couple of catalogs from companies that sell stuff like that. I’ll check them out tonight and see what I can find. Can’t even recall the company names at the moment. Oh yeah and that will be after taking the children trick or treating…

I can only find one of the catalogs - “Schrader’s Railroad Catalog” and they do not carry that item.

[#ditto] and I’ll help make it longer by adding more really helpful information [:-^]

Ich auch!!!
