Help me with my decision

I am preparing to start planning my layout and have to make the decision on the scale to use (N or HO). My whole reason for building my model railroad is my love for steam locos, most specifically the UP 4-8-8-4 “Big Boy”. I have been able to find multiple manufacturers for HO scale, but I am having trouble finding any for N scale. I would go with N if I could find the “Big Boy” for this scale.

If anyone knows any manufacturers out there that make the “Big Boy” for N scale, please let me know.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Steve, I just did a quick search on the WWW N scale BigBoy.

The only one I found was on Ebay. It was for a used undec ConCor & it’s almost $200 US.

Good luck with your search.

Athearn has their new Challenger (with DCC! & sound?), but nobody has done a Big Boy for quite a while. Good luck on the search though!

With UP getting hostile about licensing, I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for any new production of UP-specific rolling stock in any scale. I won’t even considering decaling an undecorated box car - the License Gestapo might show up on my doorstep!
