HELP N SCALER'S: How do these trucks attach to the car (pics)

Even though I don’t model N scale I had to buy this PRR Boxcar. It sits on top of my computer monitor. I accidently bumped the monitor and the boxcar fell behind it onto the carpet. I found the body and trucks but can’t find anything else. How did the trucks attach to this small thing? Did they use some kinda clip, maybe a small screw? I can see why I don’t model anything smaller then HO[;)]

They are held on by a pin that goes through the truck bolister unlike a HO that is attached with a screw that goes through the truck bolister.

Bill

Bill,

The car is by Atlas. Can you be more detailed about what this pin looks like? Does it come down through the body then into the trucks? I have looked for 30 minutes for these things.

Thanks

Michael

They go up through the trucks into the car bolster. It’s been so many years since I messed around with N scale that I don’t remember exactly what they look like, but they’re a lot like the plastic pins used in Accu-rail HO kits.

Thanks Jeff,

Do they look like a nail? I know exactly were it landed but I still can’t find anything. I probably can go to the hobbie shop for some if I can’t find them.

It’s just a pin, flat on both ends with a flat head on one end, kinda like a nail with the point cut off.

Atlas truck pins look somewhat like a black capsule, the same color as the trucks. You may find it somewhere near where the car fell. It could roll somewhere else you can’t see so easily.

Truck pins are a spare part you should be able to find at any good LHS. They could be in the same section as the spare trucks & couplers.

The pins fit into the underside of the truck. Press fit it into the carfloor. You could press fit it into the bolster without the truck to be sure it will fit.

If this dosen’t work, you can get a MTL replacement truck. MTL supplies truck pins with the coupler pair. You always need a spare or 2 around.
