Hey, guys: I find myself in need of some help here. I have just purchased a Kadee PS-1 Box Car kit, which is undecorated. I need the dimensional and capacity data to make up a set of decals for the Flint Hills Northern - all the tiny little dimensions from the right side of the car, and the CAPY, LD LIMIT, and LT WT numbers from the left side. Also, the date when the PS-1 was first introduced by Pullman-Standard. If sombody who has one of these cars could please just read off the data from the side of their car and post it, I would greatly appreciate it…
THANKS!
Several companies make data sets for various freight cars - Champ, Microscale, Walthers etc. On my freelanced “St.Paul Route” I use Champ data sets for the data. My custom made decals are just for the RR name, reporting marks and herald.
I’m sure a web search in Yahoo or Google on “PS-1 Boxcar” will come up with all the info you need. IIRC the 40’ / 50 ton PS-1 first came out soon after WW2. Other than getting the built and the new/reweigh dates right, I don’t usually worry too much about the “fine print”
Thanks, Stix, but I do my own decals, including the dimensional data, and I just need tyhe text, without going out and buying decals I’ll never use… I did the web search (which comes up just about all models, none of which have close enough photos to be able to use) but the few prototype photos don’t show the data legibly…
In looking over several photos of various prototype cars, it appears that the dimensional data varied, depending, I suppose, on the particular appliances and options specified by each individual buyer. You’ll also note that the the dimensions of the two cars vary slightly.
A C&O car, built in 1952 shows the following to the left of the door:
CAPY 100000
LD LMT 122800
LT WT 46200
…and to the right of the door:
EXW 10-4 H 13-7
EW 9-4 H 14-5
IL 40-6
IW 9-2
IH 10-5
CU FT 3888
…while a similar CGW car, built in 1947, is lettered (to the left of the door):
CAPY 100000
LD LMT 124100
LT WT 44900
…and, to the right of the door:
EXW 10-4 H 13-8
EW 9-4 H 14-4
IL 40-6
IW 9-2
IH 10-6
CU FT 3898
Note that on both cars, rated at a nominal 50 ton capacity, the total of the LD LMT and the LT WT is 169000. Whatever you decide on for either of these figures, adding it to the other figure must yield the same 169000 total.
Since you’re modelling a free-lanced road, either of these examples should work for your decals - it’s unlikely that any rivet counter, armed with a tape measure, will be capable of gaining access to the interior of the car. [swg]

Way to go, Wayne! That is exactly the info I needed! Thanks jillions![bow]
