tubes of umber and sienna acrylic paint. Dab on the colors in random spots and add water to mix together

Rocks and dead trees on lake bottom

water

trees, bushes, grass, cattails at side of lake.

trees, bushes and some rock out croppings on the mountain

Thats a start.

Some flat black paint and more view block inside the tunnel, mainly to hide the curve but also to do away with the “movie set” look of raw wood back there. The black paper centers of loose leaf document protectors are good for this sort of thing.

What part of the world are you modeling? The highest landform looks typical of the wide band of area along the AZ-UT border, which would mean that light tan and dusty rose would be dominant scenery colors and the vegetation would be rather sparse. Your water feature could be an impoundment (deep blue) or else a dry wash. Not many permanent flowing streams in those parts!

Best bet would be to Google a National Park or scenic tourist destination in your area of interest, then eyeball the illustrations. This is a case where one picture is worth a lot more than 10,000 words!

I think some rock molds with shading and drybrushing would look great. But then I dont know where you are modeling so that might not be appropriate. Just looks a little “smooth” to me.

I’m sure that’s just an effect of the camera flash. Normally it’s probably pretty dark in there.

Is the plywood section going to be a lake, as someone suggested? If so, you should build up a bit of a “shoreline” sloping down gently to it, although the rock face could plummet straight in.

If it’s going to be more of a meadow, then you should build it up in spots to get rid of the totally flat look. I use foam scraps and cover them with plaster cloth. I also mount plaster rock castings flat on ground to represent ledge poking up through the soil. This can also be a nice effect in a lake.
