Hi guys. After moving and building another modeling room, I am unable to plan a layout to fit. Is there anyone out there that can put me in contact with a “mentor” , close to Pinson Al. ? I have redrawn plans for almost a year with no success. Thanks for any help you can offer. PS. the local club wasn’t much help.
There are a lot of experienced and gifted people on this forum. If you provide some basic information, like room size, budget, scale, and what kind of layout you are contemplating you will get all the help you can handle right here.
There may even be someone from your neck of the woods reading the link!
Tell us what you are thinking, maybe we can help.
Have you tried the “wrecking crew” club in Birmingham? I’m sure there are plenty of guys there that could lend you a hand. If not I’m from north Montgomery. what size do you have available? what do you have in mind?
Terminal…
Som thoughts to maybe help you out. This is what i did to help me with my problem. Maybe write a list out of things you want in your lay out. Then, maybe you can work from your list and help design it. Atleast might give you somethign to work off of and help get past the “hump” Here is an example…
- Do you like operations?
- Do you want yards to work with? How many? How big?
- do you want industry for operations?
- do you want scenery more?
- Point to point style or full loop?
- One main track or 2?3?
- What types of trains? Passenger of freight? Which is favorite?
- DC or DCC??
if you can answer some of these, then mayeb give you some direction. If not, post up the room size and let people draw some up for you. I have quite few myself from all of my layout ideas. I had been working with a 20x20 gargae that I had most of. We ar emoveing soon so I have been working on a bedroom size. Of Course, if we get a house that hasa good sized living room, I get that, but who knows how big that will be.
Take care

First off, I don’t know how to contact “wrecking crew”. As for as space, etc. 12x 17 around the wall design- walk-in. You enter layout between the 2- 10 ft. tables via an “L” aisle to pit. Rear wall is the 12 ft sizeThe right wall is 17 ft. Iam wanting an industrial road & 3 passenger trains also. Coal, wood, farm products. 1 sizeable classification yard to handle freight & pass. trains. 1 off road interchange. ? staging yard(s). 9+ roundhouse-coal/ diesel engs. Late 50s era based on SOUTHERN RR.of sorts. 21in. radius min. curves. no spegetti bowl… See why I’m having a hard time? John.
