I need something that will help my contact problems, I have heard of No-ox but i live in canada and i don’t think they will ship a liquid right now because of hightend security. Is there any other product that i can use,I read that TV contact cleaner will work,Should I use this product or not? any suggestions
See the post"Contact Cleaner" MAAS does it all
In addition to MAAS on the track, replace all of your plastic wheels with metal ones, and use MAAS to clean them BEFORE operating.
I’ve had good luck with a liquid cleaner called “Rail-Zip”. I forget who makes it, but it’s availible from Walthers. However, some people say that denatured alcohol does a good job.
GOOO-GONE,should be able to fine inyour local drug store, just read instruction on bottle,or maybe a hardware store/limber store…
Well I know at least one guy who had bad luck with Goo Gone – it seemed to interact in an odd way with DCC. Maybe a static charge that gathered dust?

I used goo-gone and while it worked when you first put it on, after a while when it evaporated it just turned back to gunk. I then tried rail zip and it worked ok. But yesterday I tried Flitz metal polish and it worked great. (see my other post on “cleaning with metal polish”.
I have sound decoders in my locomotives and clean rails is a must. If you don’t have 100% clean rails you hear it.
We use TV channel cleaner at the club that I go to and also use it on my home layout.By using this we clean the track twice a year and just push a old F7 with a track cleaning pad across the layout before operation at the club.I clean my layout track when ever I feel I need to…I run N scale at home and so far no problems…
If you use the TV channel cleaner be sure to open a window or have a fan running for health safety reasons.NO SMOKING during the time you are cleaning the track for safety reasons.I don’t think there is a fire hazard but I play it safe.
Our modular group uses everclear on the cloth of our centerline track cleaning cars. This is 190 proof alchol, is inexpensive, goes along way, and can be purchase in any liquor store (at least here in the states) if you can’t get it up there, maybe you can get the equivalent. This leaves no reside and does not hamper pickup.
