help!!!!! pls

im sorta a newbie in this hobby, problem is how do I clean my rails? some portions of it got sprayed with matte fix when I was fixing my ballast. although I covered the rails with tape, some or most of it still penetrated causing my engine to not run at all in the affected areas, need help badly, thanks

Here are some methods:

  1. Use a bright boy or
  2. a commercial track cleaning solution or
  3. use some rubbing alchohol with a rag - wrap rag over one finger, wet and rub on top of rails.

I have also used 800 or higher grit wet-dry sandpaper on a small sanding block. I have tried all of these.

When doing ballast, use an applicator that will allow you to control the drops of glue. I like to use an old small glue bottle (one with the tapered usually orange cap that twists), others use an eye dropper or pipette. This gives you so much better control and the glue mix will get a better saturation than any spraying. The wet tape has allowed the tape adhesive to be the trouble since the rail was covered.

The only track cleaning you’ll ever have to do. Trust me! Just make sure to cover your rails better in the future.

Amen to that! I used the GLEAM method back in 06 and haven’t had to do any more than a light wipe-down on my rails since.

thanks for the quick replies guys, used the sandpaper suggestion and it helped!!!, yup apparently it was the adhesive that caused the problem, whew! actually I normally use a syringe for applying matte, just experimented on the spray, was a bad idea after all hehe, thanks again guys!!
