Help w/ Athearn Genesis Big Boy

I received my Big Boy this week. Trying to figure out how to hook up the tender. From the parts diagram, I see where the loco hooks to the tender. But how do I get to it. I think I need to remove the shell of the tender. There are 3 screws in the top of the tender. One is underneath a (water fill?) hatch at the rear of the tender. I can get to it. The other 2 are underneath the coal load. I’m not sure how to get it off. Any hints? I don’t want to go pushing or prying blindly. My luck isn’t that good & I don’t want to break it!

Thanx

Make sure the wired connector is pushed into it’s slot in the tender, then line up the drawbar with the slot in the tender and push in until it locks. To remove the tender, do the opposite.

OK. Thanx! I’ll try that. I thought that you had to take the top off of the tender & slide the drawbar down over the connector in the tender.

Would it be best to leave it together? That drawbar may not take a lot of that snapping on & off. I don’t have a layout at home, so I take my stuff to the club to run. I probably need to find something to pack it in so that it could stay together.

Thanx again for the input!

It is the snap fit type. After you connect the wire connector, just align up the drawbar into the tender slot, and push. The drawbar has an open end on it and it will pop onto the pin. A slight pull on it will remove it also.

I have questioned how long this will last, but so far so good.
