Help with a Bachmann 2-6-6-2 Basketcase

I purchased a Bachmann 2-6-6-2 seems new. but it was a buy it now for $70 dollars “As is” I think it was a custom return to a Dealer weathered “Professionally” and a somewhat obscure road-name. Now me being virtually new at the animation aspects of the hobby and totally clueless to the wonderful new Tech/Detailed Locomotives it was Love at first sight even for a Dropped once but looks hot. I since then have been been systematically fiddling with and almost have it running perfectly except for the drive rod on the front set of drivers will stop just short of the full.rotation and drop down and continue until it is humping bottoming out, I already have a Handmade Custom Cab forward now regulated to the Display case because I thought my .Min 30 . inch radius would be sufficient I am all for learning but with three 2-6-6-2’s “2 Brass” and none functioning I feel I am back to Dioramas…so please how do I get that full radius it is almost there , thanks Jim I can photograph when I learn how to post on Message board.[:#]

OK, I’ve had a few of those apart and have four of them that run great. I’m not sure I understand what is happening so let me discribe it another way - is one of the drivers lifting up at the same position on each revolution, causing everything to bind up? If so you likely have a driver out of quarter. While the defect rate on these is not too high, out of quarter drivers are a common problem when a problem shows up.

Getting the driver out to check or repair it is a major task, which involves completely disassembling the loco from the top down to allow the disconnection of the driver pickup wires to allow the removal of the bottom plate on the front engine (each set of drivers is called an engine).

Bachmann may be able to help you with this in one way or another. If they cannot replace it under their warranty, th

Thanks for the response as to the Road-name on the cab side 24, the tender has “INTERSTATE” that’s all; I guess my Bachmann becomes my first test Loco…I still have 2 brass 2-6-6-2’s but I think ioose loose wires might be culprits no pickup at all[:#]

I think I saw this very engine at the Timonium show in October. My friend almost bought it to swap shells with a 2-6-6-2 with sound that he has. Very nice weathering job.

Anyhow, if the mechanism is giving you fits, you can always contact Bachmann to send it back. Be warned that they sometimes just replace the whole engine, so if you want to keep the weathered shell and tender, remove them before sending it in.

BTW, the Interstate was a coal hauling road in the south that interchanged with the Virginian and the C&O and has quite a following. They’re long gone, of course.
