New here so this is my first post and was hoping someone has had the same experience. I have my first Stewart Hobbies engine. It is an MKT Switcher and there is no pre-drilled hole for the horn. What do you suggest I do? I don’t know if I should try to drill a tiny hole in the engine or cut of the tab and try to glue it on the surface or maybe you have other suggestions for making a hole in the shell that would be the right size. Thank you all in advance for any help you can provide.
I would say check your model more closely. I am not aware that Stewart ever put out body shells that did not include all the required holes to install the supplied detail parts. Horn locations varied widely on the prototype, so it’s possible that it might be somewhere…you are not expecting it to be?
From the assembly instructions of a Stewart Baldwin VO 1000, part III, FINAL ASSEMBLY. Step (1). Reference a photo of the prototype locomotive that you choose to model. Note the horn location. Use a #66 drill bit to open a hole and install the horn (47).
Thank you for giving me the size drill bit. I am new at this hobby and am just starting. I have checked the dang thing many times and there isn’t a hidden hole for the horn. Thanks again and I hope I don’t screw it up, it runs like a dream, I would hate to mess up the way it looks. Take care.
The F units usually have all the holes - the Baldwin switchers - they did not predrill the holes for the exhaust stacks and horn because you need to check your specific protoype (and era - they changed with time) for both the number AND location of the stacks, which also affected the location of the horn.
There are multiple marks on the inside of the shell to use as starting points.
Thank you both for the idea to look for drill holes on the inside. I did not think of looking inside. I know where the horn and the stack are to go on my specific unit and will look inside for the hole starters. Thank you that is great information.
