Help with BLI Heavy Mikado

I have two BLI locomotives a heavy and a light Mikado. No problems with the light, I even got it programmed to a number other than 3 . However the heavy just stopped working. It isn’t picking up any power from the track, no lights, sound, zilch. The light runs just fine on the same track. Is there anything like a hidden on/off or something that I could have hit in handling it? It has only been run half a dozen times and handled very carefully. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

i would first check the wireing to the loco and tender,a wire may have come loose. Before you pull the shell off,I would probe around the wires/connections with a wood dowel or a plastic rod.as a last resort, check out the decoder.

Try double clicking function 6, it might went into shoutdown mode.

Make sure tender truck did not rotate half way around, my buddies did and
would not work at all. simple fix. good luck.

Ditto! it took me anhour of button mashing, fiddling and fart’n around before I did this.

Just a thought but my BLI Hudson & a friends Atlas TRainmaster have pulled the same sort of trick. All these engines have the same QSI decoder/sound system. Once in a while they will short across a frog & do a factory reset to address 03 & of course are completely dead until you figure out what transpired. Hope this might help. Ted

BLI should have included instructions on how to manually reset the entire engine.

My M1a went to sleep during programming on the seperate track, it was operator error in a incorrect mode. We made it go after all. But I had fears of a pernamently dead engine.

Suggestion; BLI wants to hear from us. I sent them a postal letter on their SideKicker last
Monday and got a THANK YOU e-mail from them Thursday.

Try disconecting the draw bar and see if it will run with only the wires between the tender and the loco. If it does, then re-connect and see if there is a short at the drawbar between the tender and the loco. If there is then the tender chassis is live and probably picking up track from a bad insulation at the truck pivot point. If this is the case, talk to BLI and either return for repair,or see if you can fix it yourself. I was able to.

Thanks very much every one. Hopefully it will be the simple one with the 6 setting. That is possible. We were trying to use it for the first time on a DCE system and I wasn’t familiar with the controller. I’m hoping it is something simple but can’t check it out for sure until Tuesday night when I can get to the club layout. Thanks again.
