anyone have an idea who has the best working cleaning car and the cheapest engine to pull that cleaner with. the engine should still be a solid machine. all of this is in HO scale. Thank you to all, and enjoy the hobby.
For a ‘high end’ track cleaning car, the Tony’s Train exchange car is great. But it is about $100! I also have a Centerline car($40), but it is a real pain to tie off that wiper, and it really only tracks good in one drection. For a lot less, you can build a masonite ‘sled’ car. I have both, and use the TTX car only once a year, or after some construction. Normally I put a P2K GP9 on either end of the ‘sled’ and let it orbit, changing tracks once in a while to get all of the yard/siding tracks.
Of course, using metal wheels helps keep the dirt from being tracked all over the
layout. Plastic wheels just ‘spread’ the dirt/gunk around the track…

I owned both but ended up stepping up to MAAS metal polish/cleaner paste for $3.50 and used the sales proceeds to buy an Atlas Dash8-32BW.
MAAS is a 3-way, removers, polishes & delays oxidative degradation.
THANKS! MR Jan 2003 for the heads up.
