Help with D&H 12503/CACV 3000 Kitbash

The D&H had this oddity stationed at the Oneonta, NY yard for most of its life. It was later in service with the Cooperstown & Charlotte Valley Railroad (CACV). From what I understand it was a “one off” experiment produced by GATX. I like to model oddities and rarities such as this (kind of reminds me of the Oscar Mayer weiner mobile[:-^][dinner]) I am stuck as for a starting point for the tank. I can’t make out the car specs fromany of the pictures I have. The car was actually classified as a covered hopper “Pressure Slide” as is says on the car. It looks like the take was just a standard tanker that was chopped and welded so as to drain toward the center. Does anyone have a suggestions as to what the “standard tank” might have been based upon your expert opinions and observations from the photo at the linked page? for those of you with access to the D&H color guide - there is a good photo there as well. Any and all help (especially additional pics) and insight appreciated.

Thanks

The Color Guide has one picture…it’s basically the one you posted from the other end. There is a note, that the car was never photographed away from the fuel track.

I would start with a Walthers 16,000 gallon Funnel-flow tankcar or one of the 17,000 gallon corn syrup tankcars (it seems like Atlas and Intermountain both make those).

If you go to http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/misc-c/misc-c.html and search for CACV, you can find some more photographs.

Thanks. I was looking at the Walthers 16K - it seems similar just eyeballing it. Thanks for the link. I had been to the site before and save the pics to my computer, but couldn’t remember where I had found them. It’s in my favorites now.[:)]

Does anyone have an idea of what color red I should use? Is that Chinese red? Like all photos it looks more red or more orange depending on the pic. Close is close enough for me.

thanks
