Help with decoder

I am having trouble with a plug and play decoder Digitrax DH163L0. I have installed it in a Proto 2000 GP38-2. I can only get the forward light to liht no power to the motor. I am using Prodigy dcc controller

Does the unit have a seperate bulb for the number board lights? If so, then that is the reason. Any Proto unit with a seperate number board bulb is like that. What you will have to do, is cut the second bulb loose, and power it ( with an in-line resistor ) with one of the decoder’s function outputs. That is of course if you want that bulb to work at all. You could just as easy cut it loose and leave it.

And THIS keeps him from getting power to the motor???

Thanks for your help works now. what a thing to have to trouble shoot. Plug and play my a–

No, that answer has nothing at all to do with the lack of power to the motor.

Are you sure you have the proper address selected? The decoder’s default address should have been 03. If you don’t have your Prodigy set to address 3, or reprogram the decoder to a different number, this is why your motor isn’t working.

The light bulb question has been brought up before and is covered on the Digitrax web site at http://www.digitrax.com/appnote_llpk2.php

bgarner,

I can understand how you feel, but after hardwiring in a couple of decoders, I think the 163LO is simply wonderful!!!

That other bulb creates what looks like a short circuit to your DCC system, which WILL cause the unit to do nothing at all!

Wow, that’s really weird. Thanks for the info![:D]
