Help with finding a locomotive, please.

Alright, so one of the very few steam locomotives I have to have is the streamlined Dreyfus designed Hudson that pulled the 20th Century Limited in the 30s. However, I’ve hit a snag…while as far as I know it’s as famous of a locomotive as UP’s big boy…yet I only know of one manufacturer that ever actually made it, and that is Rivarossi.

So my question are: What could I expect if I managed to pick up one of these made by Rivarossi? Are there any good prototype photos of the entire train, or documents stating it’s consist and # of coaches it pulled on the 20th century limited? And who has made this locomotive other than them?

THANKS!

P.S. Just found out that Broadway Limited has ANNOUNCED them…but from what I’ve heard about other locomotives(the SP Daylight namely) I shouldn’t hold my breath for it, but i’m hoping i’m mis-informed about that.

My advice would be to wait for the BLI versions. The Rivarossis are dated.

I considered buying a Rivorossi NYC J3a streamlined Hudson back in the early 90s when I was gung-ho about the New York Central but didn’t get it as the price was too stiff for my budget. I got to see one in action 2 years ago at a club. It was a bit “jerky” at low speeds and the drivers slipped when pulling a load around curves and gentle grades. I got the impression that it needed more weight for better traction.

I wondered what it would take to repower one and make into a decent performer.
