Help with GN's big sky colors?

Guys,

Anyone know what color GN used for their top color on their Big Sky Blue paint sceme? I’m thinking of painting up some modern locos in those color much like SMOKE does with his Southern and other units that he’s done.

I already know that the bottom is called big sky blue and Polly Scale makes that. Then the strip is white but the top I can’t tell is a grey color, blue color or a black. Any hints

Thanks

Zak, The top is charcoal gray.I’ve found that Pollyscale’s Grimy Black is almost dead on.

Have a good one.

A matching set of Modern Locos and Modern Freight Cars in the GN Big Sky Blue scheme can be painted in the same way that Kansas City Southern has revived the Southern Belle scheme for Locos and Freight Cars.

Andrew,

I’m not exactly sure what you are saying. Please expand.

According to the President, and modeling editor of the GNRHS, Duane Buck, the color he recommends for the roofs of BS Blue equipment is NYC gray. I, myself, have used SP Dark Lark Gray with success as well, though I don’t model much post 1967.

I also painted a couple of modern units in GN big sky for a customer. I used the grimy black to paint the tops as well.

Wow! Now that is what I’m talking about! Are those in HO scale?

I’m planning on picking up the F45 by Athearn Genesis but custom painting an GE engine and an EMD. I’ve been checking ebay for good deals so right now I’m not sure what those engines would be.

I’m mainly doing this just because I like the look. I’m not modeling GN but I just might buy the Walther’s passenger cars and just have a lovely set to run for the fun of it. I do really like the RED caboose of GN though. So maybe passenger or maybe freight.

Yes, They are HO scale Kato SD90’s if I recall corectly
