Help with locomotive coupler selection

I have a couple mid-90s era Atlas GP-9s I’d like to fit with knuckle couplers. (I know they are on the newer Atlas models I think they are Accumate?) Is there somewhere I can go to order a kit that just “bolts” in for the Atlas brand? I have a new RS-1 that actually gives you the snap in rapido set along with the scale type couplers already on the loco, so there must be some interchangeability. I work on a limited time budget, so I want something fairly easy if it is out there…hopefully! Thanks as always ----Rob

I am assuming you are talking N scale because you mention rapido couplers.

Check to make sure which version GP-9 that you have.

If it says Kato on the bottom you need old# 1155 new # 001-32-110 conversion kit with front and rear pilot.

If it says China on the bottom you need old# 1015/1016 or new # 001-02-000/001-02-006

I believe the difference between the 1015 and 1016 is one is short shank the other medium shank. I haven’t converted any in a long, long time and my memory is short sometimes.

Hope this helps,

Craig

Rob,

I suspect you have an N scale Atlas GP9? The Micro-Trains web site has ALL of the conversion info - the 1015/1016 coupler set should do the trick.
