Yet another one for my Forum friends. Does anyone have a good idea on what font/ HO decals match the road number on this car: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=3193827? The numbers don’t seem to be on any NP set that I have seen (and I have seen quite a few). It isn’t the standard numbers as the 7s don’t match in the slightest. (The 7s for the rest of the cars have more of a curl on the base ie http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/np/np4279awb.jpg.) I am trying to build one of that series of hoppers and have found all the other decals I need except for the numbers.
As usual any assistance that can be provided would be most welcomed.
There must be an NP historical society that can answer your question. Historical societies have also been known to produce custom decal sets for various cars
It’s not necessarily prototypical-might be what the manufacturer or decaler had in stock. Don’t expect 100 percent fidelity from anyone but yourself - and you may have to compromise
Champ Decals, now long gone, would have referred to the lettering on that NP boxcar as Railroad Roman, while that on the covered hopper would have been Modern Gothic.
They made those decals in a wide variety of colours and sizes.
Beyond that, there’s not much more I can add, other than MicroScale might have something useful, or you could contact Circus City Decals
I have both the RailroadRoman and RailroadGothic fonts. If you email me at igoldberg1@earthlink.net I will send them to you as an attachment in reply. An 18 point font is 1/4 inch. You can adjust the size until you find the right one, then create your own decals.
If the spelled out Northern Pacific is too large for that particular HO car try the N scale set. Although I see one line of the smaller size lettering included. The numbering seems to fall in the 75xxx series.
