Ok i am a novice 14 year old modle railroader, and i’ve been trying to work with those old O-27 remote switches. I have those black stoppers in the railing, but every time i boot up the tranformer and put power on the tracks, the switch resists a manual turn with the controls, directly on the switchitself, or the automatic witch funtion it has. What am i doing wrong?
Hi!!!
Ensure the insulating pins are correctly installed in the rails (inboard rails). Also, you may want to experiment with the 3 wire hookups. Try different combinations until they work. And ensure there’s a clean electrical connection. Also, you may need to turn power up on transformer
Wait so I put the insultors on both side tracks on all the directions, and thats it?
insulating pins (just 2 total) are needed here (I’ll try drawing it)

- shouldn’t the insulating pins be on the right-most rail on both legs?
Since both outside rails are common, I don’t think it matters.
Dave has it right for most Lionel O27 switches.
Ok thanks. My uncle was converting tracks, so he gave me those, but didn’t exactly tell me how to use them.
O-22 uses the opposite rail on the turnout for “control” purposes, O-27 uses the inner one. For the non-derailing function to work properly, you need to get this “right”.
I didn’t even know there was an O-22 curve! Lol
Two things are getting confused here. The 022 is the model number of the O31-style switch, not the diameter of the track circle.
and a mighty fine piece of hardware it is. [:D]
