help with restoration of 2065 please!

Hey All,

I was recently given a box of Lionel trains by one of my best friends. The trains belonged to her grandfather and they are moving to a different house and needed to get them out of the way. In it contained a 2065 passenger set from 1954, a Lionel 600 MKT freight set from 1955, and a #41 army switcher, with some papers, a kw and 1033 transformers, and some ho stuff.

Ive decided to sell everything but the 2065 set and the 41 army swithcer. The 2065 is in okay shape, but could do with a re-paint and some new parts. Could anyone suggest a brand and name of black paint i could use (dosent necessarily have to be a match to the original color, but that would be nice), as well as a place where i could find a parts diagram for the 2065 and 2046w tender?

Thanks

Nick

A favorite paint is Krylon’s 1613 semi flat black. Some also like this auto paint and I have seen it and plan to try it myself -http://www.sjdiscounttools.com/sem39143.html

If you have access to an airbrush, try Floquil engine black.

Agreed that the Krylon 1613 is a dead-match for Lionel original. Be sure to let it cure for a week or so before applying lettering.
