Help with Rivarossi Heavyweight

I have 3 Rivarossi Heavyweight coaches that I am in the process of decaling for my road. I can’t for the life of me figure out how to get the shell off to be able to add some passengers to them. The included drawings don’t seem to give me a clue of what needs to be done to get the body off without destroying the car to add interior details.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Are these the coaches you’re working on?

They are short, about 75 footers.

The roof is held on with 4 tabs on either side. You can’t see it in this picture, but on the sides there are 2 sets of raised rivet seams on each side, going from the bottom to the lower window sill. On my cars, these are between the 6th and 7th windows from each end. These also mark the position of the inner roof tabs. The outer tabs are above the first windows on each end (not the doors.)

Carefully slip a knife blade between the roof and the side. Once I located each tab, I pushed a thin screwdriver between the car side and the roof to push the tab in and release it.

The screws along the centerline of the underside of the car hold the seat module in place.

Ray … Most of these cars have the roof and clear windows molded in one large piece of clear plastic. The roof is painted and the windows are not painted.

To remove, turn car over. Find the tabs holding the clear piece inside the car body. There may be four or six tabs with 2 or 3 on each side and the tabs are part of the clear piece.

The tabs are latches. push them aside with a small screwdriver or other small tool. It gets a bit tricky because the tabs spring back in place when you let go of them. Pull the roof upward while pushing the tabs. Start at one end of the car.

Thank you sir! (well I thank both of you actually) Those are exactly the ones I have. Actually they are 60’ shorty cars, but they opened right up as you said. You would think Rivarossi could put that info somewhere…

Thanks again!
