Help with Xtracad

Hi,

I’ve been playing around with this program for a while now. But I haven’t learned how to use flex track. Could someone help with that? Just a short tutorial?

I can not even find flex track anywhere!

Magnus

If you use the “join” tool to connect two tracks, you get flextrack between them!

Have you done the demo/tutorial, in XtrkCad? I don’t think I could have used it without doing that first. I went through it, then used the program for a while, and then wne through a lot of it again, it made more sense the second time!

Lillen,

When you need to put a piece of flex track in I do a CTRL+J then click on the first end of the track to be joined, it will put a red circle there, then click on the other piece to be joined, if the line is red something is wrong, if it’s black then you’re ok to release the mouse button. If you’re creating a curve and the line remains red after you release the mouse it means that your minimum radius is below what you have set in options. For example: If, in your options you have the minimum radius of any curve to be 18 degrees, but you lay a piece of flex track that is 14.5 degrees it will leave the track line there, but it will be red. Hope this helps, good luck.

Hi,

Ive done what you describe but I get no control on the curve radius. I’ve left plenty of room for a wide curve and then it makes one of the tracks longer and I get a smaller radius curve. This is especially problematic in a yard since the many tracks there get ever smaller.

I will do the tutorial again. You probably have a point in it being better the second time.

Magnus

It always gets red. But I don’t understand why. The program makes the first track longer! Then makes the curve. Sometime it says something about the 2nd track being to short or that it’s beyond the 2nd track.

Magnus

You can adjust the curve by holding down the mouse button while moving things around until you are happy. Tutorial is pretty good.

Thanks Stein. It was the mouse button that did it. Also, I realised. When I tried to fix it before I thought that it might have something to do with the minimum radius. So I put that to 120 cm instead of my regular 90. Now it works.

Thanks all of you!

Magnus

Its trying to make an easement. Go to the easement menu and go from “sharp” to “none” to disable this feature.

A red also means you are making a radius below your minimum radius. Check options->preferences to see if maybe you need for fuss with that to set it as you like. I think the default is 11 but I am not sure.

What I tend to do is make circles of my chosen radius where I want my curves using the circle option (its the button with a circle with a 95 on it, don’t as me why) then connect between them. Another option is to use the “modify” option and extend the track… if you right click it will let you curve as you go along (look at the status thingy on the bottom of the screen for radius) or straight if you left click.

The tutorial is highly recommended.

Chris

how do you get xtracad?[%-)]

Go to http://www.xtrkcad.org

No thats not it. It just creates straight pieces of track. But I have figured it out now.

Thanks everyone.

How about an “S” of two parallel lines?

I cannot seem to get it to “stay” on one particular layer either. I was wanting a separate layer for my roads.

wheeler

if you want a new layer for roads etc open a new layer and then do your roads.they will then be on that layer.

if they have already been done first open a new layer ,then click on them, go to tools-move to current layer, and the highlited roads ,track etc. will move to the new layer
