What sort of help do you need?
Noel
i need ideas and help to learn how to begin a full-scale room-sized layout…
thx
My recommendation: Get your hands on some books and magazines and study-up on the subject so you have at least some idea of what you want and what you’re getting into.
There are lots of folks here who can assist along the way with responses to more specific requests, but just waving a general “help” flag probably won’t get you much except a variety of personal opinions–many or most of which may not be applicable to your particular situation. You didn’t even specify the room size, so it’s kind of hard for folks to be all that helpful.
Yes , more info will help, & a book on building benchwork from a hobby shop is a good start ! Here is a link to one of the forum members layout showing benchwork, that can be modified to any configuration. Let us know if you have any ideas & what you plan to run.

here you go
First you need to answer a few questions before you get into specifics.
- What type of trains will you run?
2.What level of scenery do you want?
3.what is the minimum radius you can live with
One of the critcal bits of info. is the room size. In a spare bedroom you would be limited, in a full basement in a ranch style you’d be the envy of many. As CSXect asked, the trains you intend to roon could also limit your plans. Engines requiring a min. O-72 need at least a 7’ wide area for a i/2 circle turn.
Check out the track plans with the articles in CTT to get an idea of what can be done.
i want long trains, and the min. radius is 7’
i want to have a good bit of scenery, but i’d like to have islands of detail like a team of people washing an engine, it is a spare bedroom but i want a place in the middle with my contorols and also would like to be able to run them from my bedroom.
I have a couple of things to say. [soapbox]
BOOKS!!!, [dinner] BOOKS!!!, BOOKS!!!.
CLASSIC TOY TRAINS!!!, CLASSIC TOY TRAINS!!!, CLASSIC TOY TRAINS!!!.
Also: NEED TO GIVE MORE INFO!!!
[?]What size is the room? [?] [?] [?] [?] [?]
[?]What exactly do you want, Mountains, Plains, Praries? [?] [?] [?] [?] [?]
[?]What “diameter” of track do you want? If you want a realistic appearence, I guggest you go with Gargraves 0-72 or larger. Ross Custom Switches are good companions for gargraves track. [?] [?] [?] [?] [?]
You need to give more info than just “I need help with my scale room sized layout”. Be more specific [dinner] [:-,] [:(!] [:D] [:0] [V] [?]

Sorry I went overboard on the smilies, I just decided to use them, and I got carried away. I just love 'em.

O-27is the kind of track i want, but i already have a lot of lionel O track.
Oh,
Well, if you want Scale Sized, then you want to go with at least 0-72 for realisticness.
If you want 0-27, use 0-42 or larger Lionel. K-Line makes 0-72 and larger tubular 0-27 track.
