I am a beginner, and was wondering where to start; if I should buy one that is already assemled. or build it from scratch. Any ideas?

Sounds like you are looking for some ideas to. Look up sizes that fits your room, and or budget. Building your self takes time, but its fun. Read allot of information and get some ideas on what you want, era, and so forth.
Custom built setups are nice, but they can be very expensive.
Welcome to the hobby and the forum. As you are learning, there are many aspects top this hobby and planning is helpful.
I would suggest starting with reading and watching this forum.
