Basicly why I left FL 6 years ago lol
This is why I take issue with folks complaining about the weather and natural disasters in MA. While the winters are not particularly fun (except for those partial to winter sports), we have little to complain about on a relative basis. Ridiculously high taxes and fees, exhorbitant cost of living, and corrupt politicians are another matter. And I am willing to entertain a debate with you guys over which of us reside in the worst states for these.
While shopping in a grocery store last Fall with my MIL west of Chicago, I found it interesting that live lobsters were no more expensive than here in MA! How do you explain that? Perhaps DougM has a pond and a lobster breeding franchise in his back yard.

RI52- the answer is easy----sock it to the Tourist.
You hit the nail right on the head.
Hey, now THAT"S FUNNY!!![(-D]
I could move back, now that my Dad has a snow blower…[swg]
I’ll take that bet. Any of yours recently plea guilty to 2-felony purgery charges and agree to pay $1,000,000 in restitution?
Rats, who told Jack about my secret lobster farm?
I hearby put forward Illinois’ claim for the most ridiculously high taxes, exhorbitant cost of living and corrupt politicians.
I’ll only say that NJ is a solid 2nd place…7% sales tax, 2% income tax(at least it was when I left) and property taxes that are sky high.
And I wish I was back there…[sigh]
Yes I am crazy[D)]
First wife didn’t have good experonces in NJ now for her comment that fits to her feelings to you lol
FL. is the N.J. of the south
Chief, very good photos! The second photo has a lot of truth attached to it even though it is a cartoon. Florida does seem to get more hurricanes but right now New Orleans & vacinity may top this years list.
With tropical storm Fay us Floridians wanted to share our wealth of rain with the rest of the country. If you beleive that one I will be able to sell freezer units to Eskimo’s.

So you want to live in Ohio??? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKvd6v8Axj4
I would like to live in Ohio but you guys get tooo much snow & other cold weather!!
Texas looks like it will take the brunt of the next storm!! Ike is coming right at you and Tina Turner is no where around to stop him! The weather channel did a little history on Texas hurricanes and there were eight in the past 58 years to hit Texas. So I guess Texas could be the next state to apply for Plywood Statehood.

Yep, Texas looks like it’s gonna get smacked hard. I was reading one of my other hurricane sites today, and the storm surge is predicted at 10-15 ft for the right side of the impact area. This will really do some major damage, as the texas coast is pretty flat-- sort of like florida’s west coast-- Hope that the people get sensible and evacuate–
Lee, Rich & Florida Guys: Kind of serious question: What do you do to protect your trains when you expect a hurricane? As always, thanks.
Something else that most people forget about is the tide table. If landfall comes during hi-tide it adds to the storm surge issue, especially if it is an astronomically hi-tide.
A hurricane/tropical storm is pretty rare around these parts but tidal issues sometimes play a major role when we get some big waves/surf from big winter storms in the northern pacific.
Good question, never crossed my mind. I’ve only been here 15 years. I probably would put them in a plastic container and dump peanuts or wrap them in bubble wrap, stuff I usually have on hand. Track and buildings are replaceable, in my book. Save the rolling stock and parts, That’s what I would do.
Hurricanes are tough on the Texas coast; but they’re often good news for us inland here in Austin–they provide welcome opportunities for a good rain.
As for taxes, I suggest moving to Alaska. No only do they not have state income nor sales taxes, they give you money for living there!
My first thought is to protect the house itself. If that survives intact, the trains will be OK. If not, the trains will be the last thing on my mind.

Wellington, FL (about 10 miles from phillyreading)
I would have to agree with anjdevil2 about protecting my engines and rolling stock, mainly my pre war & post war stuff, and some expensive new stuff like my T-1 northern and SD-45’s, and F-7’s.
