Here there be LIONS

Sixteen minutes of raw video with several trains running at once. Poor camera. LION is just learning movie editing. Enjoy it if you wish, pan it if you must.

LION, I’ve tried to view this but it looks like it’s loading but just shows a white screen.

EDIT: it worked when I selected the Full Screen mode on the right.

Nice work! Fun to watch.

Lion,

WHERE’S THE LION? Or did my grandson’s interruption make me miss it? Expected to see him hovering over a tunnel entrance or in a station.

You have quite a layout there. Your trains seem to run well, one goal we hope for. You’ve done a lot of work, stations look good and the rest is coming along. There is a lot of space to fill.

As with all aspects of the hobby, we improve as we go along. You have now started on the learning curve for taking and editing videos. It will come along just as your layout building skills have…

Keep up the good work.

Have fun,

Richard

I read many of your posts and asked myself what a subway layout may look like. Now I know. Interesting and good running.

Thank You. The trains are automated, I have no controls for the trains themselves, only for the interlocking tower. Once I dispatch a train from 242nd Street, it is on its own until it gets back to Dyckman Street, there a home ball holds it until I can route it back into 242nd Street. There is indeed a lot to do on this thing.

Next time around I will put a LION in the picture.

thanks for posting. i bet you are having as much, if not more, fun than anybody else in this hobby.

Maybe it’s a roll playing thing? Having a good friend in the Dungeons and Dragons gaming community, I know they are into the roll playing thing in a major way, but I’ve never seen it in the model railroading community before until Mr. Lion.

Well, there IS that most famous of railroad lions, the Stourbridge Lion…

Lion, your videos are always a pleasure (despite your opinion of your own video editing, which I happen to disagree with [swg]). Your layout always interests me because what you do is a) utterly different from anyone else’s approach to… well… just about everything, and b) it works very, very well. Count me as a fan, my furry-pawed friend!

Stu

I love it. I wish I had that much space to build a layout.

Cheers.

Just Lions?

Were the tigers on strike? [:-^]

Seriously, Lion, that is impressive!

Lion,

Nice layout. Although I don’t always understand your technical explanations I admire your work. Us Eagles view from great heights and only swoop down for the kill.

Eagle Scout Gary

Very nicely done. One day I might try modeling the Red Rocket in Toronto after watching this. Did the Lion eat most of the people?[:)]

It looks great. What made you decide to model Subway Systems? Is it difficult finding Subway cars etc. I grew up in Philadelphia and always considered adding an " EL " to may layout, now I may consider a Subway.

I saw the LION about 7 and a half minutes in. There was a claw that reached down form the sky and nudged the train to get it moving. Either that or the hond of God.

I am impressed as much by the layout and the fact there were no furry paws getting in the way of the camera.

Well, now that you mention it, construction was halted for a while. NYCT was on strike and I did not think that it would affect my layout, but it seems that I was mistaken.

BTW: These photos were taken in December of 2005, so I have been working on this layout for eight years.

People (urp) What people?

People are EXPENSIVE. I have some painted figures that I move around for photo shoots (sometimes) and a bag of unpainted figures which are still unpainted.

ROAR

why Mr. lion’s layout isn’t in MRR I have no idea, it’s amazing!

Do you really think that it is finished to a point that would impress an MRR editor.

Yes, I could write a story about it, and have thought about doing so, but I just don’t know about it.

ROAR

I was thinking on buying a bag of unpainted people as painted people are expensive. I am not sure I have the dexterity for it. I see some bags of inexpensive painted people shipping from China on eBay but am afraid they would never arrive. Maybe I will roll the dice.[%-)]

Gotta Love the LIONS!!!
