Here we go!

Hi all! I’m new to the community and the hobby. The kids wanted a hobby we could all be a part of so we chose modeling railroads. We are excited and hope to be able to contribute to the forum in the future.

We will begin our n-scale layout next month. That should give me plenty of time to recover from the price shock!

Cheers!

Mike

Welcome Mike, how old are the kids? I just wish I had some grand children to enjoy the hobby with.

Cuda Ken

Hi Ken. They are boys, 15 and 11. The 15 y.o. wants to create the scenery while the 11 y.o. is fascinated with the trains themselves. We are planning on modeling the transition era so that we can run streamlined diesels and steam locomotives.

Welcome, and enjoy the hobby.

Hello [#welcome]

don’t be afraid to ask questions and don’t forget to thank the gents who answer your questions.

Sounds like excellent advice. Thanks!

Welcome to all of you.

Might I suggest that if you havent’t read some books on getting started in the hobby, that you pick one or two up, along with a couple of basic scenery, wiring and building books. They may be available at your local hobby shop or you can go to SHOP above and order from our host.

You have noted sticker shock. Having good information before spending too much will reduce OOps purchases. We all make mistakes and do things over, good information just makes those OOps’ a little less costly.

Glad you have interested offspring. Mine weren’t and neither are their offspring.

Have fun,

Richard

Welcome to you and the boys. It was always a great time doing model railroading with Dad when he was alive.

Good Luck and don’t worry about the cost, just have fun!
