Heritage 2-8-8-2

Recently purchased this terrific engine. Runs great, but was not overly impressed with its pulling power. Thinking of adding some weight inside the boiler. Any advice?

Walthers just rereleased this engine with one or two traction tires, so you might be able to get some drivers with tires from Walthers.[:D]

Some weight can be added, but not a sufficient amount to really help.

Darth Santa Fe has the best answer if the traction tires are compatible with the early run.

Should be.

The traction tires is news to me.

The pulling power of the QSI Y3 2-8-8-2 isnt that great and I am considering replacing it with a PCM Y6b.

If those traction drive wheels are availible, how would one get a set; assuming they even fit?

Contact Walthers and let us know what they say. Last time I tried to get a part they just gave the shoulder shrug bit and said they couldn’t figure out the stuff Life-like sent to them…

You’re not alone–a lot of us are not impressed with the Proto 2-8-8-2’s pulling ability. When I need to run a coal train, I sidetrack mine and use my new PSC 2-10-2 or my older Oriental Powerhouse USRA 2-8-8-2. The Proto makes a pretty good helper, though. At least it LOOKS good.

Contacted Walthers and they do not have the traction tires. Option left I guess is to add as much weight as I can. I noted a comment on another site that referred to the high weight of Trix’s Big Boy. Said it wobbles significantly.

I have two of the Trix Big Boy’s and they do not wobble, but are among the best running models on the planet. The engine will run extememy slow and never hesitates.

If it wobbles, something is wrong with it for sure.
