I think they should keep this style of locomotive.
I think my favorite Heritage unit is the 1989 Rio Grande (UP)
I think this one should win the must memorable Heritage award;
The 1989 is a great looking locomotive for sure. The Katy is probably just about even with the 1989 for my money, but they both are great.

That is one beautiful machine. That color scheme really accentuates the looks of the GEVO.

Now THAT"S extreme!
Another picture of 1989
Another Heritage Unit CNW 1995
And here is the 1995 last night in Colfax on 1/30/2010 after dark.
This is the 1995 at Rocklin.
And the next day, the 1995 is going north to Seattle on a bare table.
Bare table is north out of Roseville on 1/31/2010.
Top notch shots CZ. 1995 seems to be spending much more time in California as well as the western part of the US the last few months, especially when compared to 2006- early 2009. I caught 1995 several times in Cajon over the summer and more recently in San Timoteo Canyon w/ 1996. I included a picture of 1995 at Pine Lodge, CA back on 7/28/2009, on the KG1LA-26.

Here is 1996 & 1995 in San Timoteo Canyon with the 2 KG2LB-19.

Thanks CZ, and yes that is snow way back there. There were several peaks with snow but nothing down low. It was a great chase, got many run-bys.

Lets not forget about 1983! Here is UP 1983 near Swarthout Canyon road back in Aug of 09 on the KG1LA-09. I would say my favorite heritage units are 1996, 1988, & 1983.
The WP LIVES!!

This is the 1983 looking a little cleaner on a business train at Newcastle in 2008. It does keep the WP colors alive very nicely.
What 5011 (5511?) are you talking about? the UP5011 is a plain jane SD70, and the 5511 is a C45? or did some other road paint up heritage units?

Yes currently UP 5511 is a C45ACCTE (pictured below at Cameron,CA) but as seen on page 1 of this thread UP 5511 was once a 2-10-2. This 2-10-2 is still kept at Union Pacific’s steam shops in Cheyenne, WY but isn’t operational (2 my knowledge) and it may be being used for parts just like UP 838 is being used for. From recent pictures I’ve seen 5511 still looks good sitting in the steam shops.

Nice picture of the present day 5511.
This is the 5511 in the remaining portion of the roundhouse at Cheyenne.

I thought UP has a same color locomotive with the Operation livesaver. Does anyone have the road number?
