I was curious as to why the D&RG unit was numbered 1989. Didn’t they absorb D&RG the same time as SP (or vice versa)? Is there some other significance to this year. Second question was the unveiling only open to employees and special guests? I am curious as I would like to be there when they unveil the SP unit in Roseville if they allow the normal folk in for the event.
Any info is greatly appreciated.

I think it was because 1988 was the year the D&RGW purchased the SP, but they couldn’t use 1988 because the MKT unit already was.
